I think Gary was being honest. But the costume will allow him to relax and enjoy himself with a man…or men. Gary could find himself with a guy dressed as Jimmy Olsen (whatever version), Lex Luthor, Brainiac 5, or even Superman (mentioned in several of the Silver Age comics a couple of times and even one SLIGHT allusion in “Smallville”).
Or it could out to be a DC/Marvel crossover and have Gary meet a guy dressed as Thor. And the guy introduces Gary to his own large hammer.
