It might be that it’s less about Stevie being “as sharp as a bowling ball” and more about is own unwanted, subconscious desires. He might WANT to be his own mom...and therefore a certain someone’s WIFE. (This is slight speculation because we don’t know the mother’s marital status.) His desires would lead to certain rash, repeated behaviors that he doesn’t truly understand.
